Ulaagchinii Khar lake

Protection status: Unprotected.

Site description: The site comprises Khar Lake and Baga Lake, which is located in its northwest. The freshwater, Khar Lake is surrounded by sand dunes in the north and hills in the south. A small stream enters to the lake from the east. There is a small island in center of the lake. The Baga Lake is lake with no outflow, surrounded by sand dunes and hills. Sand migration around lake is accelerating in recent years. Since 2008 Mongolian Academy of Sciences conducting fish researches based on the lake.

Importance for birds: Globally and nationally threatened bird species such as White-headed Duck (Oxyura leucocephala), Great Bustard (Otis tarda), White-throated Bushchat (Saxicola insignis) and Whitetailed Eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla) occur at the site.
