Food: Small rodents, passerines, lizards, rarely amphibians and insects.

Habitat: They prefer to nest in abandoned nests of Black-billed Mapgies, Carrion Crows, Daurian Jackdaws in trees, occasionally on cliffs and rarely in nests of Eurasian Sparrowhawks in forests, forest steppe, and river valleys. On migration they occur singly and feed on small birds and voles in open steppe and in the valleys of lakes and rivers.
