Habitat: Bare sandy shores and mudflats, sometimes muddy and boggy hollow areas in  the valleys of rivers. They nest colonially.  The nest is a shallow hollow sometimes lined with very sparse plant material. On autumn migration adults and non migrans from large migrating flocks consisting of 10-20 individuals.
