Food: Terrestrial insects and their larvae.
Habitat: Breeding pairs nest in trees holes
in coniferous, deciduous and mixed forests in mountain taiga, forest steppe,
gardens and valleys of rivers and lakes. The tree nest whole entrance is
c.3.5-4 cm diameter, with a tunnel curving down to an elongated chamber c.20-22
cm high and 7-8 cm wide. The cavity is unlined.
