- 14cm.
Breeds in woods, often with coniferous element. Prefers denser patches.
Mostly resident, but population in N and E periodically wander southward.
Identification:
Has on average somewhat shorter bill than Short-toed Treecreeper, and at beast
birds in N Europe are whiter below, have whiter supercilium and whiter, more
contrasting pale spots on crown /mantle. (Continental birds of both species are,
however, very similarly coloured.) Fine differences exist in wing pattern (see
plate) but require photograph or extremely close view. Voice is best clue!
