CHUKH LAKE VISITED ABOUT 19,100 BIRDS

The Bird Conservation Center in Mongolia organized a survey of rare birds in the Kherlen River Basin in 2016, collaborating with the Administration Office of Protected Area in Dornod province. In this year, Chukh Nuur, field research center of Mongolian birds, was established, and worked with researchers from China and Russia. The Chukh Lake is one of important lakes in Mongolia in Strictly Protected Area where the birds stay in summer. Researchers have begun a research on rare species of cranes, bustards and coastal birds. In one month, research team counted the number of birds and monitored all the survey. During the spring migration, over 141 species of 19100 birds were counted in the Chukh Lake. There are 58 species of birds recorded in Mongolia, of which 28 are recorded in Chukh Lake.
